Smoking Shelter Guidance

The smokefree legislation requires that all enclosed public places and workplaces be smokefree. Businesses must consider what measures to put into place for their premises and their employees to meet this legal duties.

Some businesses are considering providing smoking shelters for their staff and customers to use. These structures will need to comply not only with the Smokefree Regulations but also with planning, noise pollution, licensing and building control legislation. The Health and Safety Team has developed in-depth guidance for businesses who are considering installing smoking shelters.

Please download the Smoking Shelter Guidelines at the bottom of the page or contact the Health and Safety Team to be sent a copy. By completing the Pre Planning Application and submitting it to the Planning Department, who will consult with other departments, you can obtain advice from Leicester City Council on whether your proposed smoking shelter is likely to be acceptable.
